Piecing the binding

Hi there,
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.
I am working on the binding for the charity quilt I am making and wanted to show you what I am doing.
This is fabric that is left over from piecing the quilt and they are 5 x 10 inches in size. In this picture below I have them laying right sides together and just the corners overlapping. I drew a line from the middle of the bottom fabric and the upper left hand corner of the top fabric down to the middle of the top fabric and the lower right hand corner of the bottom fabric.

In this next photo I drew another line a half inch towards the corner and then stitched on both of these lines.

I then cut a quarter inch from the first line which gave a quarter inch seam to the binding and a quarter inch seam to the triangle.

I pressed the seam open.

Then I pressed the top of the seam to get it good and flat.

After I pieced a piece about 24 inches in lenth I cut it in half lenthwise which made it 2 1/2 inches in width and pieced the ends together using the same technique as shown above.

Now I have these left over triangles to make something out of. So many possibilites.

And that is how I am making my binding while using up my left over fabric.
Have a great day and Thanks for stopping by.

Merry Christmas

Hi everyone,
I wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas if you are reading blogs today. I am working so yes, I am reading blogs.
Here is a little update.
I finished quilting my charity quilt and I am piecing the binding with left over fabric. It looks amazing. I used a polyester bat and I can't believe how light the quilt is.
Anyways, that is all for now, go and enjoy your family.
God Bless and
Thanks for stopping by.

New sewing tables from Ikea

Hello,
Here are pictures of my new sewing and cutting tables that I bought last weekend at Ikea.

Cutting table with flannel board on the wall above it. There is a lot of storage space underneath the table and the height is perfect.

The corner table with sewing machine. LOVE IT!

This space above my machine I am thinking of putting a peg board on the wall to organize tools and thread.

Any thoughts??

New pictures of WIP.
Here are pictures of the charity quilt I am working on, all layed out so I can look at it before I piece it. I had the fabric cut out right after Black Friday and started piecing it last night.

All pieced and ready to quilt. I am really loving this quilt.
You can find this pattern here.

 Ready to quilt.

I hope to get this quilt completely quilted today and binding on tomorrow. I am slow and take a lot of breaks so I better get back to work. Have a great day.

Thanks for stopping by.

Totally Tuesday

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to share my totally awesome weekend with you.
Last Friday night my daughter and I, along with her two sons drove to Minneapolis Minnesota to go to Mall of America and the Ikea store. We arrived in town around 9:30 ish, found a motel room and crashed in order to be well rested for our big day.
Saturday we were up and at em by 7:00 ish, out to breakfast by 8:00 ish, to the pool til 9:00 ish, back to the room, cleaned up and ready to check out by 10:30 - ish.

Off to the mall we went. first we had to wear the boys down a little more so we rode rides until noon (grandma and toddler friendly rides) and then off to Ikea for lunch and some major shopping.

Lunch was de-l-ish (kinda got a theme going here).

Shopping at Ikea here we come>>> Oh My Goodness!

We left Ikea around 4:00 ish with stuff strapped to the SUV, kids strapped in and brains overloaded with tons of decorating and storage ideas like you wouldn't believe.

What did we get?? You are asking??
We got, picture frames, an easel for the boys, canisters, an embroidered pillow case with pillow, sheets, candles, a book shelf and much more.
AND!!
I got my new sewing and cutting tables!!

Unfortunately I left my camera in my daughters vehicle so I couldn't take any pictures but as soon as I get my camera back I will be sure to take some pictures and post them.

There hasn't been any sewing done on them yet because this week is finals week for me but I am looking forward to this weekend. Yea baby!!!

The baby boy quilt is finished and the way to his new home. The binding is all done on the Bento Box quilt and half of the binding is done on the green table topper, just the hand stitching to the back needs to be done..

I am having visions of projects for next year dancing through my head and can't wait to get started.

Merry Christmas from our house to yours.

New baby boy quilt

Good afternoon everyone,

Hi there, just wanted to share some of the things I have worked on this weekend.

I pieced this darling little boy quilt and now have it loaded and ready to quilt.

I am almost finished quilting this Large Mug rug or Small table topper.

That will put me at 3 quilts to get bound and one tabletopper/mug rug to bind.

I still have my flower quilt on the design wall. Sorry about the quality of the pictures, my camera didn't want to focus real well.

I hope your weekend is happy and productive.

Thanks for stopping by.

Finish up Friday

Hi Everyone,
 WOW!!
I can't believe 2 months have gone by since my last post. The time just seems to go faster and faster, especially with the holidays coming on.

I was reviewing my September to do list and the only thing I completed on that list was Olivia's quilt. It is all done and I need to get it in the mail.

I also finished up quilting the Bento Box quilt and have the binding ready to put on it. I have to get some movies from the public library and get busy on that one. I like watching movies while doing my hand work.

I did start quilting on the little green table topper and I finished up quilting a customer's quilt yesterday.

I still have more that I want to get done so here is my new list:

1. Finish up the American Beauty quilt - the white needs to be quilted and the binding put on.

2. Work on piecing the Flower quilt.

3. Quilt the 2 table toppers and bind them.

4. Piece and quilt Baby Boy quilt for Kari. (She had her baby last week!)

5. Finish up Baby Boy Raggy quilt.

6. Piece and quilt man's quilt for charity in Jan.

7. 2 Christmas stockings for the newest grandchildren.

I joined a NewFO Challenge for 2013 and you can check it out here:

2013NewFO

It sounds fun and I hope to keep you updated on all the exciting projects I will be working on in 2013.

Thanks for stopping by.
God Bless.

WIP Wednesday

Hello,
It's Work In Progress Wednesday. YAY!!

WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced
Here are a couple of things I am working on this week.
My nieces "You Are A Star" quilt is quilted. (That is the name I am giving it because of the stars in the piecing and the quilting. And, well, because she is a star too) :)

Now to get the binding on, this weekend.

DSD's quilt (Bento Box) is going on the long arm. I loaded the top tonight and still have the back to piece. The back will be all white and pieced in 3 strips because the top is larger than a queen yet smaller than a king.

And the binding on this Quilt for Kids quilt.
That's about it for my week , how about yours.
I would love to hear about your WIP'S or anything else you have to share.
I hope you are having a wonderful week.
Thanks for stopping by.

Happy Tuesday

Hello,
My niece's quilt is quilted and off the long arm. YAY!!! I quilted a pantogram on it that had stars and loops. The back is pieced and I think is almost as cute as the front. (pictures coming).

Now I have my step-daughters quilt top laying over the long arm and I hope to get it loaded tonight.
Looks like this next weekend will be spent hand sewing binding on,  in front of the T.V. , and watching old movies.

Happy Labor Day

Hello,
Hubs is home! YAY!
For those of you who don't know, my husband drives a semi truck and is on the road for at least 3 weeks at a time and then comes home for 3 - 5 days.
I knew he was coming home sometime this week but wasn't expecting him so soon and since I had worked extra hours this weekend I really wasn't feeling up to making him a home cooked meal. Does a crock pot meal count?  Crock Pot Lasagna!

Here is the recipe for Crock Pot Lasgna.
Crock Pot Lasagna
Ingrediants
1 lb lean ground beef
1 onion chopped
2 garlic cloves, smashed
1 (28 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
1 1/2 salt
1 teaspoon oregano
12 ounces cottage cheese
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese or 1/2 cup asiago cheese
12 ounces lasagna noodles, uncooked
16 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese
Directions
1. Brown ground beef, add onion and garlic when beef is mostly browned
2. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, salt and oregano
3. Cook sauce long emough to get it warm.
4. Spoon a layer of meat sauce onto the bottom of the slow cooker
5. Add a double layer of uncooked lasagna noodles (break to fit) and top with cheeses
6. Repeat with sauce noodles and cheeses until all are used up
7. Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours.
Enjoy.

Dear Hubs went with me to the fabric store and watched while I fingered fabric and got what I came for. A high quality muslin.
Thanks for going with me Dear Hubs.

Hope you are having a fun Labor day.
Thanks for stopping by.

September - Projects to get done - List

Hello,
September is here!
My summer has been very productive, sewing-wise, with a little family fun thrown in here and there.

This is my September project list of things to do. (Maybe posting it will give me some accountability to get it done).

Here we go!

1. Quilt for Kids quilt that is quilted and now needs binding.

This is the binding I am going to use. It is a strip of binding left over from the Baby girl quilt I just finished up. There isn't enough to go all around the quilt so I am going to cut this piece into sections about 8 inches long and altenate it with white 8 inch sections to make it go farther.

2.Now that my long arm is free I am going to load up my nieces quilt, get it quilted and put the binding on all in this month. Did I say "all in this month"?? I am sure she will be happy to know this since she graduated high school last year! I know what your thinking or at least I know what I am thinking (because I can't read minds - for real), but I think I can do this! (Or at least plan to do it, right?).Here is the pieced top laying on the long arm thinking about getting loaded on.

I am going to piece the back of her quilt with all the fabric I have left over. As you can see I have a pretty fair amoung left over. If it isn't enough I will add white on the borders to make it bigger.

I should just stop here! but I am going to push myself this month so here goes>>>.

3. Here is a flannel Baby Boy Rag quilt that is on the list to finish up. All of the squares are cut and some are sewn together so on the list it goes!

4.Here is a table runner and a table topper all pinned and ready to be machine quilted.

5. My lovely flower quilt that I would like to finish piecing and get quilted this month.
AND....
When I get all of that done (hehe) a new project to start?

I know, I know. I still have other projects burning on the back burner.
I have tons of ideas for newer projects to start!
I love the process, finishing up one and starting another, or maybe it's the other way around. Either way - I LOVE IT!

What is your project list for this month? I would love to hear about it. Feel free to leave me a comment as I love to hear from you.
I hope your summer has been productive too. Look out Fall here we come. :)

Thanks for stopping by.
